UFOs, OVNIs and soucoupes volantes
Picking up on a post that Jo Rhys-Jones put up on primarymfl.ning about aliens (thanks Jo! Lots of really useful ideas and links) I thought I’d do a bit of research on UFOs. In French and Spanish a UFO is known as an OVNI (Objet Volant Non-Identifié) which is pretty much the same as UFO, but of course the word order is different.
(Q: What’s a SATNAV in French then? A: GPS still, I think)
Probably this is one for the teachers or secondary students but you might (just) get away with it if you explain ‘pipi’ – the children are always very quick to learn words for bodily functions! You could also tell them about Arcachon and La Dune de Pyla, the highest sand dune in
(BTW – ‘une soucoupe volante’ is a flying saucer but I expect you’d worked that out already)

Hi Jan - I’m being really dim I know, but I can’t find the link to the video. Desperate to see it too - as you know I have a bit of a ‘thing’ for anything remotely sci-fi!

Me again - love it!
It reminds me of one of the very first rhymes my 4 year-old French cousin taught me when I spent time baby-sitting her. To the tune of ‘Au clair de la lune’ she sang…
Au clair de la lune, J’ai pété dans l’eau
ca faisait des boules, c’était rigolo!
There was a second verse but we never got that far becaause we’d collapse in fits of giggles. Shame Catherine Cheater makes no mention of that one in any of the schemes! ;0)
